Synology NAS infected with C3RB3R/L0CK3D: confirm the device state first

Do not restart or power off first. Choose a rescue path based on whether the Synology NAS is still running, isolate the network, and preserve the scene to avoid writes to the original disks. No recovery result is promised.

Confirm the device state first

Do not restart, shut down, upgrade, or reinstall, and do not use kill -9 on encrypting processes. Process memory may still hold material needed for recovery, but whether it exists and whether it can be used must be verified based on the actual situation.

Three bottom lines

  1. When isolating the network, keep a trusted management channel. Do not cut power by mistake, and do not lock yourself out of the device.
  2. Do not write recovery files to the affected storage pool. Do not delete ciphertext, snapshots, or the recycle bin.
  3. Do not trust "guaranteed decryption" promises, do not run tools of unknown origin, and do not publish passwords, memory, keys, or business files.

If you are not familiar with SSH, processes, or storage operations, hand the rescue repository to a trusted administrator instead of restarting the device to prepare tools.
